Over the summer, Tone House has partnered with the boys and girls Harlem Lacrosse teams to improve young athletes’ on-field performance through an eight-week Tone House training program. The high school-aged athletes train with our coaches and go through our signature workout and over the past few weeks we’ve had the opportunity to watch these young lacrosse players gain confidence, improve their performance, become better teammates, and prepare to compete at the next level.

The mental benefits are sometimes just as important as the physical benefits, and this is especially true in Tone House training. Here’s what these young recruits have taken away from this program.

IMPROVED STRENGTH & INJURY PREVENTION

Training at the Tone House level keeps young muscles strong. The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns in a rest and active state. In addition, it’s important for young athletics to strength train in order to prevent sports injuries. Strong bones are another benefit of training in this

Strong bones are another benefit of training in this manner for young athletes. Humans reach their maximum length during adolescence and by age 30, bone density naturally starts to decrease as we get older.  Studies show, that the best time to focus on building strong is during the initial growth period.

LESS STRESS & MOOD ENHANCEMENT

Research shows that regular exercise reduces symptoms of depression and enhances psychological fitness, especially in formative teenage years. Exercise can even produce changes in certain chemical levels in the body, which can have an effect on the psychological state. Regular exercise reduces the number of stress hormones in the body, resulting in relaxed blood vessels, slower heart rate, and lower blood pressure.

SMARTER ATHLETES

Exercise boosts blood flow to the brain and helps it receive oxygen and nutrients. The better shape you’re in, the faster you activate brain waves that are responsible for quick thinking; fast on the field and fast in the classroom.

LIFE SKILLS

The young athletes at Harlem Lacrosse have become better teammates over the course of their training and the camaraderie amongst players has increased, especially as they push one another to finish. That mental toughness combined with teamwork helps push these athletes through the most challenging workouts. It shows their dedication to hard work and wanting to be better athletes, teammates, and friends.

Harlem Lacrosse will be training with us through the remainder of the summer. If you would like to learn more about TH Young Recruits (our teen training program), visit tonehouse.com/youngrecruits.
