In October 2021 Tone House launched a partnership with Strive Total Wellness to provide recovery services in House, as well as any additional recommended services at their facility a short walk over on 32nd street.
Strive offers an array of services available to our athletes, included but not limited to: Myofascial Release Sessions, Percussive therapy, Graston Technique, Rock Taping, Chiropractic services, and acupuncture.
Strive is currently available for complimentary 15 minute assessments or full 30 minute appointments (bookable through your account) Monday through Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 pm in House.
We sat with Amy Barksdale, one of Strive Total Wellness’ Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT) to learn more about what athletes can expect from her specialized recovery services.
“In House, someone like myself (LMT), will offer a service that we specialize in. I specialize in Myofascial Release. Whoever comes in, whether it be a licensed massage therapist, chiropractor, or physical therapist, will provide their own specialized services that everyone can benefit from. We are all very passionate in what we each practice.”
Amy explains her specialty, “Myofascial release is attending to a group of muscles that is giving you a hard time. When muscles are taut, it means the body did something for the muscles to “fight” right in the center of them. That is recognized as a spasm. The fascia, which is the fibers connected to tissue, wraps around the muscle after it knows it suffered some kind of injury. Unfortunately, it does not unravel as it wraps around the muscle. The unraveling has to be manually done. That is where Myofascial release comes in, where I stop the “fight” from happening. It causes muscle fibers to relax in the middle, and stretch to the trajectory of the muscle length. That is also why techniques such as foam rolling, and the Graston technique, allows the muscle to break up from holding itself together.”
All athletes can benefit from these services in order to perform at their top capacity while avoiding injury. Strive Total Wellness’ team will provide an athletic background and body assessment to determine appropriate services.
As Amy states, “Athletes who wish to continue performing at their best would benefit from these advanced recovery services. If a muscle group of muscles goes untreated long enough, then it will shift the skeleton. When that happens, your gait, or your walking changes. You might develop a small limp or other muscular compensations. If you are athletic and enjoy your workouts, then it behooves you to keep your muscles in the best possible shape that you can.”
Athletes can book their in House services such as the Myofascial release, Graston Technique, or Rock taping, directly from the ADVANCED RECOVERY tab in their accounts.
