Meet Jeremy Lowenstein, a fitness enthusiast, who was introduced to Tone House in October 2017. He grew up playing ice hockey for over 25 years and found solace in fitness, which helped him disconnect from work and social media. Since coming to Tone House, Jeremy found a community that encourages him and pushes him out of his comfort zone. Sara Hardy, his gym-wife, nominated him for our Pride Month Meet The Team profile highlighting LGBTQ+ Athletes at the House.

PROFESSION:

Marketing Executive

FITNESS/ATHLETIC BACKGROUND:

As a kid, I played every sport from soccer to tennis to basketball but took a life-long liking to ice hockey, which I played for over 25 years. As active as I was growing up, I constantly struggled with my weight and at 17 years old, I set out to lose weight in advance of my high school graduation. I changed my eating habits and added early morning spin classes on top of my regular hockey schedule, which resulted in a 60lb weight loss by graduation! Thus began my journey with fitness.

Today, my fitness routine is a complete mix of classes, cardio and lifting all of which push me to be my best self. In addition to lifting with a trainer and taking classes around the city, 7 years ago I picked up long-distance biking. I’ve ridden anywhere from a short 25-mile ride around Central Park before work to biking over 280-miles from Boston to NYC as part of The Center’s Cycle 4 the Cause annual fundraiser.

For me, fitness is not just about working but it’s a part of my lifestyle. It’s a moment during the day that is just “me-time” – where I can either be alone or with like-minded friends. It’s the only time of the day where I can disconnect from work and social media and just focus on the present.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COMING TO TONE HOUSE?

Since October 2017

FAVORITE TONE HOUSE CLASS (CONDITIONING, UPPER BODY, ETC.):

Core Focus Day (Wednesdays) even though gallops and runners kill me every time! But it pushes me out of my comfort zone.

FAVORITE TONE HOUSE “TOY” (EQUIPMENT) TO USE IN CLASS:

Sleds and resistance bands

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COACH WHO’S CLASS YOU ENJOY TAKING THE MOST? WHY?

While all of the coaches are great, I have to say that Christi is my favorite. She brings an amazingly positive energy to the class which is truly contagious – always encouraging and is an overall great coach. She holds me accountable and pushes me to do better, always.

WHAT DOES PRIDE MEAN TO YOU?

Pride for me, while a month-long celebration around the world, is just a moment during the year where we remind ourselves and the world to appreciate and respect each other for who we are as individuals and as a community. It’s a time to celebrate our differences but unite under a common cause. We recognize how far we’ve come as an LGBTQ community but how much more we still have to accomplish. And most importantly, pride is about fully embracing and loving yourself and inspiring others to be their true, authentic selves too. It’s about never being ashamed.

HOW HAS THE TONE HOUSE COMMUNITY INSPIRED YOU?

Sara Hardy, a close friend who is also known to most as my gym-wife, first introduced me to Tone House. And since I’ve started coming, I believe that Tone House truly epitomizes the definition of community. No matter your athletic ability, there’s a sense of camaraderie and teamwork that makes me want to work harder and be the best athlete I can be. We push and encourage each other all the way to the finish line…even if it means crawling there!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TONE HOUSE THAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER GYMS/WORKOUTS?

The true sense of Team and community along with the workouts that push me out of my own comfort zone.

FAVORITE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
